Six reasons why your business should have a website

Every day, somewhere on the globe, a new business starts up. Below are the approximate statistics for businesses only in the English-speaking world.
Any new business faces some serious competition. So should you want to make your business visible, should you want to establish credibility, you need a good website.
Below are the six top reasons why your business needs a good website.

1. Cost Effective

Setting up a website is rather cheap. Compare it to the cost of retail shop-fronts, signage and the maintenance of it all, a website costs almost nothing. You can also plan how much it will cost you. Once you have paid the development fee, you can easily plan arround your web-hosting fees, mail-hosting fees and the monthly cost of the SLA* you have with your developer.

*SLA - Service Level Agreement

2. Accessible around the clock

You go to sleep at night. Your website not. It is available 24/7/365.

Imagine that you want to buy from a store. You put in all the effort required to go to the store, but when you get there, it’s closed. We all know how irate we feel in that situation. You’ll think twice about going back given the bad taste its left (ok might have been your fault for not checking but hey, this is proving the point here!). You will just find another store that is more easily accessible.

Since your website is operational around the clock, from the convenience of the local coffee shop, their couch or their bed, your customers and clients can easily access your website and services.

3. Credibility

By building a website you are giving your business the opportunity to tell consumers why they should trust you and the testimonials and facts to back up those opportunities. Believe it or not, most people will search the internet for a product or service before the purchase to check the credibility first. When you provide good service or product, positive word-of-mouth about your business is likely to spread. Which in turn, delivers more repeat and new business.

People tend to trust a business after they have done business with it. Using your website, you can continuously serve consumers online and increase your credibility as a business owner.

4. Sales

Without sales, or selling more than you spend, your business is doomed. By having an online presence you allow for the sale of your products or services around the clock to whoever whenever with no or hardly any limitations; Unless you run out of stock or overworked, but that’s a good problem to have right! Giving your business the online presence it deserves is crucial to your brand and accountants smile.

In short, being visible worldwide means you are very likely to gain more customers. The more customers and visitors you have, the more sales you will generate. The more sales you generate the happier you and your shareholders will be!

5. Marketing

Having a website and online presence strategy allows you to market your business online. There are lots of marketing strategies you can use to advertise and market your business. All online marketing strategies have been proven to be effective. Which ones you choose depends on the type of business you are in. Speak to us to see which are best for your business.

6. Clarity and Expression

You might be able to create a phenomenal business with a solid mission statement, a great reputation, and an all around outstanding presence. But if you cannot communicate that in your website, you are going to miss out on some significant exposure.

Professional website designers and marketers know how to draw the absolute best out of your business. Just as professional resume writers can make individuals shine on paper for potential employers, website design pros can make businesses shine on the internet. Rather than take a risk and fumble for the right words or order in which to express those words, let people who have experience in the matter take care of it.

The bottom line is....

It is imperative for your business to have a website. The more professional and up-to-date it is the better. Also, what does it help if your business has a website, but it is dated 2008? An out-of-date website is as useless as a royal monarch.

About JFB Designs

In a chatroom in the late 1990's someone noticed my alias "SAfrika", and asked me: "Are you from Africa? Are you there now?"

This person found it unbelievable that the internet could have reached darkest Africa, and that they could actually chat to someone live on the internet in this so called "dark continent".

I could not allow this opportunity to slide by, and responded: "Yes, and I find the internet a huge improvement on the bonga-bonga drums we used just until last week!"

I started my IT-career in 1987, programming in DOS. My longest running DOS-program was active from 1994 to 2013, managing a cattle feedlot. Its long working span had a lot to do with the stability of the DOS-environment, and perhaps even more with the stingy users who would not spend more money on a Windows or web-based system!

Programming is all about communication. How to take raw, unstructured data and present it to the user in a structured format which makes sense to him/her. Web design is more or less the same, with the added advantage that you can present your results to the whole world, not just one person, and that your presentation can be graphic and becoming to the beholder.

Search engines have made it more easy for visitors to find the data they look for, and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) has become a science in its own right.

Many business owners say they need websites, and get into it head over heels. Maintaining these websites can be a problem, and a "dead" website drops away from search engine results very quickly. For that reason JFB Designs not only designs and publishes a website, but also back it up monthly, and update it with new content as the website owner generates it. Most people can update the websites themselves, but rather opt to leave it to a company such as JFB Designs.
